Embracing Reiki: A Journey into Energy Healing

Updated: Aug 11

Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing, has been gaining popularity worldwide for its gentle yet powerful approach to promoting well-being. But what exactly is Reiki, and how does it work?

What is Reiki?

Reiki pronounced “ray-key,” is derived from two Japanese words: “Rei,” meaning universal, and “Ki,” which refers to life force energy. This energy flows through all living things

Univeral life force energy has been around since the beginning of time. Mikao Usui discovered how to work with this energy in the early 20th century. He went on to teach his methods of energy healing until 1926. Then his teaching was resumed by Chujiro hayashi and Hawayo. Reiki is based on the belief that this life force energy can be harnessed to promote healing and balance within the body.

How Does Reiki Work?

Reiki practitioners use their hands to channel energy into the recipient’s body, either by placing their hands directly on the body, just above or by using a surrogate in distance healing sessions. This process is believed to help balance the energy fields, remove any energy blockages, and promote the body’s natural healing processes.

There are 3 degrees of Reiki. Reiki l, Reiki ll, and Reiki master. For each level a Reiki student will work with a Reiki master or Reiki master teacher. Learning the appropriate hand placements, reiki symbols and how to do distance healing

The practice is holistic and meant to be used alongside other medical treatments to enhance overall well-being.

The Principles of Reiki

Reiki is not just a healing technique but also a way of life. It is guided by five principles that practitioners and recipients are encouraged to follow:

  • Just for today, I will not be angry: Letting go of anger invites happiness and peace into your life.

  • Just for today, I will not worry: By releasing worry, you can live more fully in the present moment.

  • Just for today, I am grateful: Practicing gratitude fosters positive energy and a sense of well-being.

  • Just for today, I will do my work honestly:  encourages personal growth and integrity in all that we do.

  • Just for today, I will be kind: Kindness towards others and oneself reminds us to practice compassion.

Benefits of Reiki

Removing energy blocks is one benefits to Reiki.

  • Stress Reduction and Relaxation: Reiki promotes a state of deep relaxation, which can help reduce stress and anxiety.

  • Relieves Pain, Anxiety, and Fatigue: Many people report a reduction in pain and discomfort after Reiki sessions. A study found that cancer patients receiving distant Reiki alongside medical care experienced lower pain, anxiety, and fatigue levels compared to the control group.
